EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES
 
Department of Hydrology, Meteorology and Regulation of Flow
 
 
    The Department conducts educational work in 5 faculties:
    Ecologo-melioration (specialties - "Melioration, recultivation and protection of lands", "Complex use and protection of water resources", "Engineering systems of agricultural water supply and water removal"; specialization - "engineering conservation of the environment").
    Construction (specialty - "hydro-technical constructions", "nature-protection organisation of territories").
    Economics (specialty - "Economics and management in a water management enterprise", "Economics and management in a water use enterprise ").
    Distance education.
    Multilevel education.
 
    Lectures and practical laboratory studies are conducted on the following subjects:
1. Meteorology and climatology
2. World water balance, earth water resources, water cadastre and monitoring
3. Hydrology
4. Regulation of river flow
 
    In addition students can choose the following courses:
1. Hydrological prognoses
2. Effect of anthropogenic activities on water resources
3. Regulation of flow against floods
4. Hydro-informatics
 
    For all of the above subjects educational programs confirmed by the Ministry of Education of RF for the orientations "Environmental Engineering" and "Water resources and water use" have been developed.
    After the completion of the second year of studies the students of ecologo-melioration and constructions faculties undertake their educational practice in meteorology and hydrometrics.
    The teachers of the department help the last year students with consultations and participate in various State Examination Boards.
    The department has always paid serious attention to the preparation of teaching aids for the students.
    In 1933 professor M V Potapov published the first in the country textbook "Regulation of flow", reprinted in 1941 and 1951.
    In 1964 professor G V Zheleznyakov published the textbook on Hydrometrics (publishing house "Kolos").
    In 1970 the first in the country textbook "Hydrology, hydrometrics and regulation of flow" for the faculties of hydro-melioration was published (authors A N Ivanov, T A Negovskaya).
    In 1984 the textbook "Hydrology, hydrometrics and regulation of flow" by G Ts Zheleznyakov, T A Negovskaya and E E Ovcharov was published.
    In 1986 publishing house "Gydrometeoizdat" published the textbook "Hydrology and hydro-metrics" by E E Ovcharov and N N Zaharovskaya.
    Many other textbooks and learning aids are being continuously written and published by the staff of the department.
    In the laboratory of the department all the necessary equipment for the performance of student assignments in meteorology, hydrometrics and hydrology can be found.
    Through the centre of hydro-informatics, seminars for the distance education teachers of the tertiary institutions of RF are organized. The specialists of the University of Maryland (USA), University of Wageningen (Netherlands) and others also participate in the seminars.
