Department of Soil Science
History
 
The department was established in 1933. Until 1948 it was led by DSc, Professor S.K. Kondrashev, the founder of the irrigated land use.
 
From 1948 to 1954 the department was led byDSc, Professor I.G. Ritus.
 
In 1939 the department Melioration Soil Science was established. Until 1942 it was led by DSc L. P. Rozov, the founder of Melioration Soil Science.
 
From 1942 to 1948 the department was led by Correspondence member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, Professor V.A. Kovda, and in 1949 DSc, Professor I.I. Plyusnin became the head of the department.
 
In 1954 the two department were united into the department "Melioration Soil Science and Land Use " which until 1974 was led by Professor I.I. Plyusnin.
 
From 1974 to 1990 the department was led by DSc, Professor A.I. Golovanov, and from 1990 to 1991 - by Corr. Member of the Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences (RAAS), DSc, Professor I.P. Aidarov.
 
Since 1991 the department has been led by the Corr. Member of AAS, DSc, Professor A.M. Gasanov.
 
In 1992 the department was renamed "Soil Science and Land Use".
