Biographical data of professor V. V. Shabanov

    Vitaliy Vladimirovich Shabanov, active member of the Russian Academy of Water related Sciences, DSc, professor was born on the 27th of June 1937 in Moscow in the family of an engineer-hydrologist. His specialty is engineer-hydro-technician. He graduated from the All-Union Agricultural Institute (Faculty of Engineering) in 1964, in 1991 received the qualification Ecologist in the Centre for personnel retraining in Ecology of the Moscow State University. Areas of scientific activities: complex melioration of lands and specifically - development of mathematical models for substantiation of natural necessity, economical efficiency and ecological safety of the complex melioration regulation; engineering ecology and specifically - development of mathematical models of interaction of vegetation with the environment; complex use of water resources and specifically - development of mathematical models in optimisation of use of water resources in irrigation. In the last few years the interests of professor V. V. Shabanov have been directed to the evaluation of productivity of the autotrophic chain of an ecosystem under conditions of a possible change of climate.
    Main stages of work: technician, engineer, junior scientific fellow, scientific fellow of Yakut expeditions of the research sector of the Moscow Institute of engineers of water economy (1956-1968); senior scientific fellow and leader of works on development, creation and maintenance of automated system of complex melioration regulation in Belarusian SSR (1966-1984); head of Problem Research Laboratory (PRL) for the development of theoretical basis to control water, heat and salt regimes in meliorated lands (1972-1987), since 1987 - scientific head of the PRL; head of the Department for complex use of water resources (1981-1995); professor of the department of melioration and recultivation of lands of MSUEE (since 1995).
    In 1969 V. V. Shabanov successfully presented his PhD thesis "Substantiation of necessity of melioration", and in 1992 - the Doctor of Technical Sciences thesis "Quantitative methods of substantiation and effectiveness of controlling the life factors of plants under complex melioration."
    Main publications: in total professor V. V. Shabanov has published more than 150 works among which two monographs: "Bioclimatic substantiation of melioration", Leningrad, Gydrometeoizdat, 1973, 165p. and "Water supply of spring wheat and its calculation", Leningrad, Gydrometeoizdat, 1981, 140p. In addition V. V. Shabanov in collaboration with few more authors published two textbooks: "Complex use of water resources", Moscow, Agropromizdat, 1985 and "Complex use of water resources and conservation of nature", Moscow, Agropromizdat, 1994, 317p.
