POST-GRADUATE/POST-DOCTORATE STUDIES
Post-Graduate and Post-Doctorate Studies are the guarantee of
preparation of specialists with the highest qualifications.
Post-Graduate Studies ("Aspirantura") became avalable in the
1940-s, more than 60 years ago. During this period about 2000 Aspirants have
accomplished their studies.
According to the Admission Plan of the Ministry of
Agriculture of RF the specialists who have passed the entry exams and
competition are admitted. Taking into account the large number of applicants,
persons who did not pass the competition are accepted after an interview in the
Chairs on a contract basis.
The total number of Aspirants in the last 5 years was 145,
43% of whom have presented their Dissertations. The annual graduation - 19 - 46
persons. The percentage of successful presentation is 23% to 53% a year.
The plan of acceptance to "Aspirantura" provides for
admission of 23-40 of young lecturers a year. They become full-time Aspirants
after one year of work in the University. This allows to increase their research
time and helps to improve the quality of the preparation of Aspirants.
The plan for Post-Doctorate studies is determined by the
Department of Education of the Ministry of Agriculture of RF and is on
average 2 persons a year. In 1996-2000 thirteen persons completed their studies
and 7 of them (or 54%) have presented their Dissertations.
Currently in the University are functioning two Dissertation
Councils, for presentation of PhD and DSc Theses:
- D.220.045.01 for Specialties: 03.00.16 - "Ecology" (Technical Sciences); 05.20.01 - "Technology
and Mechanization of Agriculture"; 06.01.02 - "Melioration, Re-cultivation and
Conservation of Land (Technical Sciences).
- D.220.045.02 for Specialties: 05.23.04 - "Water Supply, Canalization,
Engineering Constructions for Conservation of Water Resources"; 05.23.07 - "Hydro-Technical
Constructions"; 05.23.16 - "Hydraulics and Engineering Hydrology".
Post-Graduate Studies for Foreign Citizens in
MSUEE are available for more than 50 years. The first foreign Aspirant, who
successfully presented his PhD Thesis in 1954, was a Chinese citizen and he was
studing in the Department of Hydro-Technical Constructions. Since then 195 foreign
citizens successfully presented their Theses and became Doctors of Philosophy in
Technical Sciences.
The Geography of countries sending their citizens to MSUEE
for the preparation of staff with the highest qualification is fairly extensive - 43
countries in four continents:
1. Asia: Afghanistan, Vietnam, Yemen, Iraq, Iran, Jordan, Cambodia, China, Laos,
Mongolia, Nepal, Palestine, Siria, Sri-Lanka.
2. America: Columbia, Cuba, Peru, Ecuador.
3. Africa: Algiers, Angola, Burundi, Ghana, Guinea, Egypt, Zimbabwe, Cameroon,
Congo, Libya, Mauritania, Madagascar, Mali, Morocco, Nigeria, Sudan, Togo,
Ethiopia.
4. Europe: Albania, Bulgaria, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Rumania.
In the last 10 years, every year, there are 5-6 foreign
citizens having studied in the Post-Graduate Courses of MSUEE who is given the
Diplomas of the Highest Examination Board of the Ministry of Education of RF.
The most successful Supervisors of the foreign students are
the following prominent scientists of the University:
- DSc, Professor, Honored Scientist of RF I. S. Rumiantsev;
- DSc, Professor, Honored Scientist of RF A. I. Golovanov;
- DSc, Professor, Honored Scientist of RF D. V. Shterenliht;
- DSc, Professor, Academician of RAAS, Honored Ameliorator of RF I. P. Aidarov;
- DSc, Professor V. M. Alyshev
- DSc, Professor E. A. Lukashov
- DSc, Professor D. V. Kozlov
and many others.
Every year 40-50 foreign Aspirants and Practice Students
study in 15-20 Chairs of the University.
The orientations of Scientific Research available for
Post-Graduate Studies in the University are:
1. Improvement of Constructions and methods of evaluation of the capacity of
Hydro-Technical, Melioration and Environmentally-Sound Constructions.
2. Research of Stress-Deformation and Seismological Resistance of
Hydro-Technical Constructions and their Bases.
3. Hydraulics of Open River-beds and Hydro-Technical Constructions, Hydraulics
of Pipelines.
4. Issues of Research of Hydro-Technical Complex Power Stations; Ice Regulation in the Head and Tail Waters of Power Stations.
5. Conservation of the Environment and Rational Use of Natural Resources.
6. Economic Methods of Regulation and Evaluation of Melioration and Water
Management Measures for Rational Use of Natural Resources in Russia and Other
Countries.
The University accepts foreign citizens for Post-Graduate
Studies on a State Agreement (5%) or Contract (95%) Basis. The cost of Studies
on a Contract Basis is $US2000 a year (accommodation for one person included).
The Contract is concluded between the Student and the Chancellor of the
University for three years of studies in the Full-Time on-Campus Post-Graduate
Course. If additional studies are required (Russian Language or complementary
Subjects), the duration of studies is increased by one year.
